Notes from Yukiko’s Desk

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Last week, our theme was hospitality. This week focuses on the
theme of prayer. The readings remind us that prayer is not just
about saying words. It is about trust, hope, and knowing that God
is listening.
The first reading in Genesis 19 describes Abraham interceding
before God on behalf of Sodom, lest it be destroyed. This text, I
believe, is one that most succinctly defines our relationship to
God and the importance of prayer; speaking honestly with God,
asking questions, and waiting for answers. I was struck by the fact
that Abraham has no fear in his conversation with God. He
prayed not once, twice, or even three times- but six times!
One of the key ways in which we maintain our relationship with
God, and our fellow humans around us, is through prayers. I am
sure you would agree with me. Prayer can be intensely personal
and publicly uplifting. Even in non-religious meetings and events,
quite often we begin with prayers. For example, our Space group
do not talk about God during the session, but we begin and end
with Karakia, and it seems everyone is happy about it.
So, what is prayer for you?
I am inviting you to ponder your life of prayer with me.
May his peace be with you,

Yukiko
