Notes from Yukiko’s Desk

Dear AGAC friends,

This month marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, the most devastating global conflict in history. The world has changed dramatically over the last eight decades. And yet, wars are still happening around the world.
As I watch the daily news on TV, I am feeling so distressed by the situation in Gaza. I feel completely helpless to do anything. I’d imagine I am not alone. The words “despair” and “frustration” cannot adequately express the depth of our feelings. It is easy to let our powerlessness numb us in situations like these. Given that there is so little we can do, it is reasonable to close ourselves off to the horror of it all so that we can continue to function in our lives.
However, as Christians, there is something very concrete that we can offer into the suffering of Gaza’s traumatized people, and that is our prayer. I would like to commit personally to regular prayer for the situation in Gaza that takes seriously the spiritual aspect of the conflict as well as the visible suffering, and I invite you to join me. and to donate to Anglican Missions’ work in the Holy Land.
Resting in Jesus’ promises
