Notes from Yukiko’s Desk

Dear AGAC friends,

The second Sunday in July is set aside for Sea Sunday according to Anglican Church calendar. Sea Sunday is an opportunity for us to remember the world’s 1.9 million seafarers in prayer, to give thanks for crucial work of the Mission to Seafarers and other seafarers’ organisations who provide practical, emotional and spiritual welfare support to crew and their families..

My husband, Cheen, had served as a port chaplain with the Mission to Seafarers for seven years. Until he told me their stories, I hadn’t thought too much how all goods made it to the shelves in the supermarket. We just take it for granted that they would be there. What we don’t realise is that we depend upon seafarers to ship over 90% of the world’s commodities that we could live without – including food, fuel, medicines, raw materials, clothes and household goods to market so that we can continue to live our lifestyle.

Many of them rarely celebrate their children’s birthday party.

Let’s remember them on this Sunday as we unite together globally to pray and celebrate the role that seafarers play in our daily lives.

Anchored in Christ,

Yukiko
