Notes from Yukiko’s Desk

Dear AGAC friends,

As I was looking for any possible connecting theme for this Sunday, 21 July, I found out interesting facts. I was fascinated to learn that 21 July marks a special day in different parts of the world. In Belgium, it is National Day. In Australia, it is National Lamington Day.  In the USA, it is National Ice-cream Day as well as National Junk Food Day! Interestingly, it is also  National Be Someone Day.

On this day, people are encouraged to take ten seconds to make a difference for good in a child’s life.

What can you do in 10 seconds? I initially thought there are only a few things we can do in such a short time. But, then, I came to realise that there are many things we can do in 10 seconds! We can water plant. We can wave to someone who looks sad. We can give a smile to someone who looks lonely. We can give a hug. We can comfort. We can register the pain in his/her eyes. We can say how beautiful he or she is. We can praise. And of course, as Christians, we can pray!

The ultimate goal of the day is to usher in a future where every child will have a right to a happy and dignified childhood.

As a faith community, let’s join them to pray for vulnerable children in the world.

Rejoicing in hope,

Yukiko
